The charming villages in Hjørundfjord
On a fjord cruise along Hjørundfjorden, you will pass by a series of small villages that reflect the calm rhythm of the fjord. We sail past several villages and make a 30 minute stop in the village of Øye, giving you the chance to explore. Øye is the only village where we stop on this tour.
Hundeidvik, located at the entrance to Hjørundfjorden, welcomes you with peaceful surroundings and spectacular views of the fjord and the surrounding mountains. From Hundeidvik, the mighty Sunnmøre Alps rise dramatically, creating the magical scenery of Hjørundfjorden.
Lille Standal and Store Standal, situated close to the fjord, offer small, charming communities with old farms and cozy summer houses. From the boat, you get a glimpse of village life along the fjord and see how nature and humans have coexisted here for generations.
Trandal clings to the mountainside with its small houses, telling the story of a life closely connected to fishing and the fjord. The village has a unique charm, and in the summer, you can experience the lively atmosphere during local blues and country festivals.
Sæbø is the largest village in Hjørundfjorden, with small shops and cafés. Located in the middle of the fjord, it boasts a beautiful harbor and views of the majestic mountains. Sæbø is also a popular starting point for hiking trips in both summer and winter.
Urke is a peaceful village with small hiking trails and beautiful nature along the fjord. Many visitors also use Urke as a starting point for hikes to the surrounding mountain peaks, or simply to enjoy the tranquility.
Øye, at the very end of the fjord, is a gem with historic houses and breathtaking views. Here, the fjord meets steep mountainsides in a dramatic way, giving you the feeling of being completely surrounded by nature’s grandeur. We stop here for 30 minutes before beginning our return journey to Ålesund.
